Zoi Tsokanou Conducts the Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa, Mexico




On February 16, 2024, conductor Zoi Tsokanou led a captivating concert at the Tlaqná Cultural Center with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa. The evening featured a rich program that showcased a diverse range of musical styles and eras.


The concert opened with a performance of Gabriela Ortiz’s Piano Concerto, highlighting the vibrant and contemporary voice of Mexico's most renowned composer. This was followed by Mel Bonis’s Salomé, a piece known for its evocative and lush textures.


The program continued with Igor Stravinsky’s Funeral Chant, a poignant work that added a reflective depth to the evening's offerings.


The highlight of the concert was Alexander Scriabin’s The Poem of Ecstasy. This symphonic poem, known for its intense and mystical qualities, was delivered with great fervor and sensitivity under Zoi Tsokanou’s expert direction.


The performance, expertly delivered by the Orquesta Sinfónica de Xalapa, was a memorable exploration of both modern and classical repertoire, leaving the audience with a profound sense of awe.
