First post lockdown concerts: Bartok and Vivaldi at Odeon of Herodes Atticus

July 23, 2020 - As part of this year’s Athens and Epidaurus Festival, the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra (TSSO) and its famous string instrument ensemble presented works of Bartók and Vivaldi at the Odeon of Herodes Atticus.

Conductor Zoi Tsokanou and Artistic Director of TSSO directed the remarkable Béla Bartók’s Divertimento for String Orchestra, a work which is rich in contrasts as it combines neoclassical style with avant-garde modernism.

The timeless masterpiece Four Seasons of Antonio Vivaldi dominated the second half of the evening. Simos Papanas, concertmaster of the TSSO, performed as soloist on violin and as conductor.
