Zoi Tsokanou conducts works by Robert Oboussier in new Naxos world premiere recording

Zoi Tsokanou conducts selected works by Swiss composer Robert Oboussier (1900–1957) in the new Naxos world premiere recording, together with the Mandolinenorchester Zürich and Ensemble TZARA, alongside conductor Melina Murray. This marks her second project with Naxos, following her earlier acclaimed release of 20th-century Greek orchestral music.

Dedicated to the Swiss composer Robert Oboussier (1900–1957), this new album presents mostly world premiere recordings, including the radical piano cycle 25 Abréviations in its original form and in a new arrangement for plucked string ensemble by Christian Wernicke.

Speaking about the project, Zoi Tsokanou notes:

“Oboussier’s music mirrors the turmoil and contradictions of his era. To bring this complexity into sound for today’s listeners is to show how ‘forgotten’ music can once again become urgent and relevant. Thanks to Naxos, his voice is finally heard again — not only as an artistic achievement but as an act of memory.”
