Beethoven's Eroica for the bicentennial of the Greek Independence

Celebrating 200 Years of the Greek revolution Zoi Tsokanou and the Thessaloniki State Symphony Orchestra T.S.S.O. presented a unique TV concert on the Greek Independence Day March 25, 2021.

The festive concert involved works of the great Greek composers Dionysios Lavrangas and Manolis Kalomoiris who incorporate elements of the Greek folk music tradition in their works. The ‘Prelude and Fugue on Greek Tunes’ of Lavrangas gives the triumphant tone of the Greek revolution, while the ‘Destruction of the Psara’ of Kalomoiris mourns one of the greatest catastrophes of the Greek Revolution.

The program concluded with Beethoven's Symphony N. 3 op.55 Eroica, a monumental work imbued with the ideals of the Age of Enlightenment in Europe.
